Which laws regulate life insurance in Kazakhstan

Life insurance in Kazakhstan is a voluntary class of insurance. Its main rules are set by several documents.

  • The Civil Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan — general provisions on the insurance contract and the rights and obligations of the parties.
  • The Law “On Insurance and Insurance Activity” — requirements for insurers, insurance agents and how they operate.
  • Regulations of the supervisor — the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market (ARDFM) licenses insurers and monitors their financial stability.

A life insurance contract is concluded with an insurer licensed for the “life insurance” branch. You can check the licence on the regulator’s website. An insurance agent helps choose a programme and arrange the contract on behalf of the insurer.
