Accident insurance: money for recovery when you need it most

An accident can happen anywhere: in the street, at home, at the gym or at work. An injury means not only treatment but also lost income, rehabilitation costs and sometimes a change in your whole way of life. An accident policy provides a cash payout that you can spend as you see fit. The calculator above shows a preliminary price, and the Dynasty insurance agency will help you choose a programme from the offers of licensed insurers.

What counts as an accident in insurance

An accident is a sudden, unforeseen external event that leads to injury, disability or death and occurs regardless of the will of the insured person: a fall, a road traffic accident, a burn, a blow, an animal bite. Illnesses, including sudden ones, are generally not considered accidents — other programmes exist to protect against them.

Risks that can be insured

  • Bodily injuries and trauma
  • Temporary inability to work
  • Disability
  • Hospitalisation as a result of an accident
  • Death as a result of an accident

Especially useful for

  • Active people and those who play sports
  • Children and teenagers — at school and in clubs
  • People who drive a lot
  • People whose income depends on physical work

How the payout is calculated

For an injury, the payout is usually determined by a table of insurance payouts: each type of injury corresponds to a percentage of the sum insured. For example, a broken finger and a broken hip are assessed differently. For disability, the payout depends on the disability group established, and in the event of death the beneficiary usually receives the full sum insured. Study the payout table carefully — it is what determines how much you will receive in a real situation.

Around the clock or only at work

Programmes differ in when the cover applies. Round-the-clock cover applies at any time — at work, at home, on holiday. Work-time cover applies only while performing job duties and, in some programmes, on the way to and from work. Individuals more often choose round-the-clock cover, since most household injuries happen away from the workplace.

Sports and active leisure

Playing sports increases the likelihood of injury, so insurers take it into account separately. Amateur workouts at the gym are often included in standard cover, while high-risk activities — downhill skiing, martial arts, motor sports, mountaineering — may need to be added to the contract specifically, with a loading factor. Professional sports and competitions are usually insured under separate programmes.

Please note. If you play sports, be sure to say so when applying. An injury sustained during an undeclared hazardous sport may turn out not to be covered.

Typical exclusions

  • Events under the influence of alcohol, drugs or toxic substances
  • Intentional self-harm
  • Participation in unlawful acts
  • Driving a vehicle without a valid licence
  • Illnesses unrelated to an accident

  3. Collect documents confirming the circumstances: for example, a police report after a road accident.
  4. Submit a claim with the supporting documents attached.

What the price depends on

The premium for accident insurance is usually modest compared with other types of life insurance, but it is still calculated individually. The broader the cover and the higher the risk, the more expensive the policy.

  • Sum insured. The larger it is, the higher the premium.
  • Set of risks. Injury, disability, hospitalisation, death — each risk adds to the price.
  • Cover mode. Round-the-clock cover costs more than work-time-only cover.
  • Occupation. Work involving physical labour, transport or heights is rated higher.
  • Sports and hobbies. High-risk pursuits increase the rate.

Frequently asked questions

Does the policy cover injuries at home?

Yes, if round-the-clock cover is chosen. With work-time-only cover, household injuries are not covered. The cover mode is stated in the contract.

How much will I receive for a fracture?

The payout is determined by the table of insurance payouts: each type of injury corresponds to a percentage of the sum insured. Insurers’ tables differ, so it is worth comparing them before applying.

Can I insure my child?

Yes, accident insurance for children is one of the most popular programmes. The policy applies at school, in clubs, in the yard and on holiday. The policyholder is a parent or legal guardian.

Are sports covered?

Amateur activities are often covered as standard, while high-risk sports must be declared separately. Professional sports and competitions are usually insured under special programmes. Be sure to mention your hobbies when applying.

Does the policy cover illness?

No, accident insurance covers the consequences of sudden external events. Illnesses, even sudden ones, are usually not an insured event under such a policy. Other programmes exist to protect against illness.

Can I receive a payout if I have other policies?

Yes, accident insurance payouts generally do not depend on other contracts. If you have several policies, each insurer pays according to its own terms.

How soon must I report an event?

The notification period is stated in the contract and insurance rules. Report the event as early as possible and keep all medical documents — missing the deadline may complicate the payout.
