The product in brief

For travellers

Travel insurance: a carefree trip without the risk of huge medical bills

Medical care abroad is expensive: even a simple doctor’s visit can cost a significant amount, and hospitalisation or emergency surgery can run to tens of thousands of dollars or euros. A travel policy takes these costs on. In the calculator above you see insurers’ online prices for your trip parameters, and the policy is issued by a manager at the Dynasty insurance agency, who will check your details, suggest the best option and send you the finished document.

What the policy covers

The core of travel insurance is paying medical expenses in the event of sudden illness or injury during the trip. Through its assistance company, the insurer arranges care and pays the clinic directly or reimburses your expenses.

Basic cover

  • Outpatient treatment and doctor visits
  • Hospitalisation and emergency surgery
  • Prescribed medicines
  • Emergency dental care
  • Medical transportation and repatriation

Additional options

  • Active leisure and sports
  • Accident
  • Baggage and flight delay
  • Personal liability abroad
  • Trip cancellation

How to choose the sum insured

The sum insured is the limit up to which the insurer pays for treatment. Options usually range from 15,000 to 100,000 US dollars or euros. For countries with expensive healthcare, long trips and older travellers, it makes sense to choose a higher limit. The price difference between limits is usually small compared with the potential costs.

SituationWhat to look out for
Travel to Schengen countriesA visa usually requires cover of at least 30,000 euros for the entire Schengen area and the whole trip
Countries with expensive healthcareIt makes sense to choose the maximum limit
Beach holidays in popular destinationsBasic cover is enough, but check the options for water activities
Several trips a yearAn annual policy with a limit on days abroad is better value

Active leisure and sports

Skiing, snowboarding, diving, rafting, horse riding and other active pursuits are usually not included in a standard policy. If you plan anything like this, even for one day, select the relevant option in the calculator. An injury sustained during an undeclared activity may go unpaid.

Children and older travellers

Children can be insured on the same policy as their parents. For older travellers the rate is usually higher, and some insurers apply age restrictions or reduced limits. If you are travelling with older relatives, tell the manager their ages in advance so they can choose a suitable programme.

Important. Flare-ups of chronic conditions and illnesses known before the trip are covered only to a limited extent, or not at all, in many programmes. Check this in advance if you have chronic diagnoses.

How to get a policy

  1. Online quote

Enter the country, dates, travellers’ ages and options — the calculator will show insurers’ prices.

  2. Request

Choose an offer and send a request with the travellers’ passport details.

  3. Policy

The manager checks the details, issues the policy and sends it to you after payment.

What to do if something happens

  1. Call the assistance company on the number in the policy before seeing a doctor, if possible.
  2. Give your policy number, your location and what happened.
  3. Go to the clinic recommended by the assistance company — that way treatment is paid for directly.
  4. Keep all documents: medical reports, invoices, receipts, prescriptions.
  5. If you had to pay yourself, submit a reimbursement claim with the original documents when you return.

What to check before you travel

  • Territory. Are all countries on the route listed, including transit countries.
  • Dates. The policy must cover the entire trip.
  • Deductible. Is there an amount you pay yourself.
  • Options. Are sports and active leisure included, if planned.
  • Assistance contacts. Save the phone number on your smartphone and on paper.

What the price of a policy depends on

The price of travel insurance is made up of several parameters. Understanding them makes it easier to choose an option that protects you to the right extent and includes nothing unnecessary.

  • Country and region. Trips to countries with expensive healthcare cost more.
  • Length of trip. The more days, the higher the price.
  • Travellers’ ages. Different factors apply to children and older travellers.
  • Sum insured. A higher limit increases the price slightly.
  • Options and deductible. Sports and additional risks raise the price; a deductible lowers it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need insurance to travel to Schengen countries?

Yes, a medical policy is a mandatory condition for a Schengen visa. As a rule, cover of at least 30,000 euros valid throughout the Schengen area for the whole trip is required. Check the current requirements with the consulate.

Why do prices in the calculator differ between insurers?

Each insurer uses its own rates, limits and set of options. The calculator shows online prices for your parameters so that you can compare offers. A manager will help you understand the differences in terms.

How quickly is a policy issued?

After receiving your request, the manager checks the details and usually issues the policy within one working day. If your trip is urgent, say so in the request.

Is skiing covered?

Only if the active leisure or sports option is included in the policy. Without it, an injury on the slopes may go unpaid. Select the option you need in the calculator.

Can I buy insurance once I am already abroad?

Some insurers allow this, but usually with a waiting period during which cover does not yet apply. It is safer to get the policy before you leave.

What should I do if I fall ill during the trip?

Call the assistance company on the number in your policy and follow its instructions. Keep all medical documents and receipts. If you paid yourself, submit a reimbursement claim when you return.

Are there age restrictions?

For older travellers the rate is usually higher, and some insurers apply age restrictions. Tell the manager the ages of all travellers and they will choose a suitable option.
